Dear Valued Friend of The Catholic Truth Society,
June and the hues of green around Littlemore are brilliant in the late spring sunlight. In another month, the green will be as monotonous as a jungle.
Of all months, June is the favorite of mariners, we're told, because of its long days. It's also the month of the Sacred Heart-the seat and source of Our Lord's tenderest human affections for us sinners, as Cardinal Newman put it.
An Irish missionary priest visited our parish last week. After Mass, I introduced myself and mentioned the Catholic Truth Society, adding that we were the distributor of the Sacred Heart Messenger here in the United States. "Ah, sure! One of the world's great magazines!" said Father Bill O'Carroll.
Father O'Carroll might have gone in for a little overstatement but the Sacred Heart Messenger, one of Ireland's most popular monthly magazines, is certainly a favorite of ours. We look forward to it every month and read it cover to cover.
It's beautifully written (as you would expect of a publication written and edited by the Irish Jesuits!) and has something for everyone in the family. We think it's a steal at $37 a year. It's also the perfect gift for a friend, family member, priest or religious.
The magazine is published by Messenger Publications of Dublin. We carry several of their Sacred Heart prayer booklets as well. These are a great aid to devotion especially when making a little visit to the Blessed Sacrament or during Eucharistic Adoration. Again, they make great gifts, especially for young people. And, you don't have to be Irish to love them!
